Just three first summer birds left flying about Hosehill LNR this morning (though 5 appeared a bit later) had me there for hours trying to get some shots of them picking insects off the water. This shouldn't be too difficult as they spent most of the day doing just that. Distance and dodgy light, however, conspired against me!

Spring sounding its arrival around the site with singing sedge warbler, blackcaps and several chiffchaffs

The Ring-necked duck was still showing well in bright sunshine on Theale Main pit

A pinkish water pipit was found at another local site - Burnthouse lane, which also held around twenty waders on what looks like a very promising, recently drained pit
