May 12th Dorney Wetlands Another ruff this morning - this time a male just starting to show mottling on its breast. It was too distant and flighty to get a photo of it. Almost the first day this month when I couldn't find a wheatear but the increasingly blowy east wind did give me the feeling that we would get some more birds towards the week-end. The curlew sand was certainly a promising start coming in some time in the afternoon. A call from Dave Carter brought me to the site a little quicker than usual though the, by now, strong wind made photography difficult. Curlew sand are rare Berks visitors and so a mini-twitch followed with SSF regulars boosted by top twitcher LGRE and Mr BLSE himself
